Spuds: 8,9. Year-old
Children are the most
vulnerable in our community, as 3rd and 4th grade
students are viewed by society as the Measurement of
whether we should be building more schools or prisons
this ideal is based on the output of scholastic testing.
The gardener's role is to make sure that the soil is
turned (Positive reinforcement and help with
homework) and fertilizer (library and hands-on
sessions with simple DIY projects with community
partners and parents) are incorporated to fuel them in
Squash:10,11,12-year-olds
Growing like vines. Interest
is high and changes quickly from seed to fruit. Our
Squash age group is developing the Actions, Behaviors,
and Attitudes that will define their Paths. This is the
most Important Stage in life, which can and more than
likely will be impacted by the peers and community at
large. As they are getting the 1st taste of decision-
making opportunity, the Gardeners will be there to help
navigate the weeds (self-esteem building exercises,
teamwork skills,) and
Tomatoes 13,14,15 years old.
These are Our
Teenagers, and they need Our Support like Tomatoes
in the Garden. This age group requires our Gardeners
to become stakes to help them Stand Tall as they
grow, and like Baskets to lift their branches as they
start to produce the positive and Dignified Results of
Their Growth. They will begin to develop the Tools of
Leadership. (at this stage they may be coupled with
Spuds and/or Tomatoes to access a simple
organizational task with supervision from Community
Partne
Greenhouse: 16,17,18. Year-olds
Need assistance in
understanding how to balance a checkbook, what Credit
vs Debit is.
How to interview a potential employer.
Conflict resolution and effectiveness in communication.
Setting Goals and mapping the steps to achieving them.
The Gardeners will be teaching the Skills to step out of
the Pot of a Plant and into the Boots of a Successful
Gardener in their own lives and the Lives of Others.
